about

StepChyle is the best soul/funk band in Western Canada. George Taylor's writing along with the passional soulful singing is a world class combination.
- Jack Semple

Based out of Regina, Stepchyle is a 7 piece band that produces a hard-hitting, fresh mix of funk, soul and fusion that makes folks jump out of their seats and on to the dance floor. Featuring a solid rhythm section, hot horns, with soaring vocals and soloists, it is a show that must be seen.

Guitarists George Taylor and Kris Craig have been collaborating musically for over a decade in various projects, documenting a wealth of experience backing such talent as Jerry Doucette, Roy Gaines, Wild Child Butler, Don Johnson and more. Stepchyle is one of their most creative projects to date, borne of the years the two played in House of Payne. Familiar in clubs and at festivals throughout the west, Stepchyle released it's debut self-titled album in 2005 to a wide and appreciative audience.

An accomplished guitarist and singer, George Taylor spent several years in Florida and the South Eastern U.S. opening for and backing such artists as Millie Jackson, Johnny Taylor, Earth, Wind & Fire, Kool and the Gang, The Ohio Players, Albert Collins, Robert Lockwood Jr. and Teddy Pendergrass. For 9 of those years he lead his own band, 'Tutch'. He later became band leader with blues legend Lucky Peterson (1989) before moving to Canada in the early 90's, where he's established himself as one of blues' leading players.

Kris Craig made his debut into the music industry at the age of 13, playing bass and guitar. He later majored in guitar at Grant MacEwan College's music program, and has gone on to play with many well-known musicians including Joël Fafard, Rory Allen and WCMA award-winner Brad Johner, to name a few.
